Skills
Many people will tell you many different things when it comes to skills. Shock typically wins the skill wars, though. I happen to choose Shock and Spectral as my skill types of choice. Instead of dictating exactly what you should choose with your skill points, I shall simply express my opinion on the matter.
| Skill | My Opinion |
|---|---|
|
Fire Skills |
Ah, yes, these. When I first began to play Neoquest, I chose this as my category of choice. Frankly, it wasn't that great, as it adds very few additional hit points to how much damage to deal out. I wouldn't pick it again. |
| Ice Skills | I've never actually tried these out, but judging by the descriptions, I would never choose it. It's much like Fire, in a way. If you want damage with a wait, feel free to choose this. |
| Life Skills | Just plain, hmm. I've chosen these before, but I never could quite love them as others do. They can easily help out, indeed, but it felt as though I had wasted the skill points near the end of the game. Still, to each his own, I suppose. |
| Spectral Skills | Yummy! Defence up, always a favorite of mine, Evasion up, and the potential to have an enemy more or less attack itself. Very nice. Absorbtion can be helpful as well, but its not very helpful in comparison to other skills. I recommend this. |
| Shock Skills | Oh, the godly skill class. Everything here reeks of countless monsters turns destroyed over and over again. I choose this... |
Weapons
It really doesn't matter. They're all fairly similar at this point, and only the later weapons are very unique. I prefer Life weapons, and if you must know why, refer to the picture above.
That's my insight into skills and weapons. I'll write this as if I didn't know that you chose Shock, however. Now, once you've picked your skills and your weapon, onward we shall go!
Ancient Neopia
Welcome to the Neopia of the past! Feel free to talk to the many NPCs in the town, meeting Boraxis the Healer in the upper left hand corner of the town, Eleus Batrin in the center, Choras Tillie in the lower right corner, Morax Dorangis in the lower left corner, and Lummock Sendant in the upper right corner.
Armor. Before you move away from the city and begin to fight the enemies for training, I must advise you on an important matter. Armor comes from collecting items Armor Masters ask for. Now, around Neopia Central there are several enemies who drop the first asked for items. They are:
Energy Shield
- A Chunk of Metal (Fire and Snow Imps)
- A Small Yellow Gem (Fire and Snow Imps)
- A Glowing Stone (Plains Aisha or Plains Lupe)
Cloth Robes
- A Blue Thread (Fire and Snow Imps)
- A Small Yellow Gem (Fire and Snow Imps)
- A Glowing Stone (Plains Aisha or Plains Lupe)
These can be received from Moraxis. Enjoy the little defence. Better than nothing.
Battling
Now, look at your screen. Notice the Pace words? Hunting Normal and Sneaking? Those determine how many random battles you get. Hunting for many, Normal for some, and Sneaking for few.
Notice the Flee button when you enter combat. This, my friends, is a lifesaver. If ever you run out of options and come close to death, click flee and if fate likes you, you'll flee and have a chance to heal.
Battles are self-explanitory, but the pace and ability to flee might be overlooked by a few people, so I felt I should note it.
Final Preparations
*Note: Before leaving the town and areas around it, make sure to be level 5+, and remember: You can always turn back and get healed by, well, the Healer.
*Another Note: Be sure to collect multiple glowing stones, as these will be used sveral times in the game. So much so that I tend to not even note when they are of importance. Just have tons*
Your first destination is that of the Dank Cave, which is north of the town. Head north almost to the water, (You should see it) and west to the hilly area. Soon you should see the entrance to the Dank Cave.
*Gigantic Note: At the Dank Cave, you must collect items for the future, and for upgraded weapons and armor. They are, as follows: (Try to get several of the "tiny" ones and get all of these items.)
(Level 2 weapons)
- tiny garnet (ghoul, troll, skeleton, ogre), pyrite rod (metal devourer)
- tiny lapis (ghoul, troll, skeleton, ogre), pewter rod (metal devourer)
- tiny amber (ghoul, troll, skeleton, ogre), copper rod (metal devourer)
- tiny obsidian (ghoul, troll, skeleton, ogre), ore rod (metal devourer)
- tiny beryl (ghoul, troll, skeleton, ogre), aluminum rod (metal devourer)
(Mirrored Forcefield)
- chunk of glass (skeleton guard)
- lodestone (ghoul)
- tiny obsidian (ghoul, troll, skeleton, ogre),
- glowing stone (Plains Aisha and Plains Lupe)
(Magic Robe)
- pelt of cave lupe (cave lupe)
- rotted cloth (skeleton guard)
- tiny obsidian (ghoul, troll, skeleton, ogre)
- glowing stone (Plains Aisha and Plains Lupe)
Dank Cave
Ah, the first dungeon. When i first played, I got lost here and quit playing for 4 months. Hopefully the same won't happen to you.
It's best to set your walking pace to hunting for this entire place, simply to level up wnough for the battle against Xantan at the end of the cave. And possibly, the game. Fight the enemies on this first level untill you reach roughly 7 or 8 before you move on.
From the entrance, head south untill you see the first opening east and take it. Continue east all the way into another opening. Head south when the oppurtunity arises, and make your way west after the water. Head south then east once you can, and soon the entrance to Cave level 2 will be in your sights.
Dank Cave 2
Don't go south. Do not go south. Never, ever go south. I hate that south. It's evil. Head east. East is peachy. Once you reach the steps, head south, because, well, you have to, or you'd head back. Head south past all the tables, (An NPC is around here, but what he has to say isn't very important, so there isn't much of a reason to talk to him. He is here, though. Rikti is his name.) till you hit black wall, then head east. Head north as far as you can here, and head down the stairs. Level-wise, you should, hopefully, be level 9 or 10.
Dank Cave 3
The path here is pretty straight-forward like the last. Only more so. I won't even guide you. If you get lost, well, you won't be for long. Your level should be about 10 or 11. If all is well.
Dank Cave 4
Alright, this place is slightly harder to navigate. Head north, west, south and south again to begin the maze. Head east and head south as soon as you can, followed by east then north. Head west, then north, west, and finnaly south once you have to choose between north and south. Head east at the next fork, and north (east) at the one after that. Once you reach the gray area, you should be 12 or 13 in level. Continue on the path, and soon you shall meet Xantan, the shrimpy.
Xantan
A simple fight, nothing really special. Attack and attack, healing with potions when you have to. Never let your hp drop too low, unless you wish to see your hp below 1. Nothing terribly exciting.
Once you defeat him, head into the portal, and Congratulations! You've finished the first dungeon, boss, and quest of Neoquest. May your next challenges go just as well.
Oh, and feel free to get yourself some new armor and weapons from Neopia City once you return.
